FAQ's

Nasal allergy is an abnormal reaction of our body to certain allergens which are normally harmless in nature. The typical signs and symptoms of nasal allergy include sudden and rapid sneezing, runny nose, watery eyes and itchy throat.

Any substance that causes an allergy is known as an allergen. These substances exist both outdoors and indoors. Examples of allergens include pollution, dust, smoke, pollen, chemical fumes, petrol fumes, paints, pets etc.

When we breathe, allergens such as pollution, dust, strong chemical or perfume smells or pollen go inside the body. Our body sometimes considers such substances as harmful. As a defense mechanism the WBCs (defense cells of the body) release a substance called histamine which activates the receptors that cause nasal allergy symptoms such as rapid sneezing, runny nose, watery eyes and itchy throat.

A nasal allergy attack or episode only occurs when an individual comes in contact with the allergen. Hence the frequency of the episodes depends on the nature of the allergen. If the allergen is always present in the environment, then you may suffer from allergy throughout the year. Examples of such allergens are pollution, smoke and dust. However, certain allergens exist in the air for a short period of time. Examples of such allergens are paints, pollution, pollen, perfumes etc.
